Program Outcomes

The successful completion of this program will enable the graduates to:

  1. Assess the active older adult and the frail older adult in order to respond to their unique recreation and leisure needs.
  2. Design, implement and evaluate appropriate older adult-centred and situationaly focused recreation programs.
  3. Evaluate the older adult's capabilities to contribute to society.
  4. Manage the role of volunteers in the delivery of older adult recreation programs and services.
  5. Distinguish the diverse contributions of community agencies/resources with varying mandates.
  6. Design methods pertinent to the effective management of issues related to the provision of recreation services to older adults.
  7. Integrate and evaluate techniques/alternatives to facilitate interaction in an active older adult.
  8. Design partnership strategies related to the provision of programs and services for older adults.
  9. Formulate methods to ensure the sustainability of recreation programs and services for older adults.
  10. Select appropriate intervention, leisure counselling and referral counselling skills as applied to older adults in a recreation setting.
  11. Evaluate the effectiveness of active older adults and frail older adult recreation programs and services.
  12. Practice the knowledge, skills and attitudes of a Recreation for Older Adults Practitioner in an older adult recreation program or service.
  13. Assimilate best practices from research in the field of Recreation for Older Adults.
  14. Integrate ethical standards and expectations into all aspects of their professional life.
