Early Childhood Education Child Care Centres
Conestoga College operates five child care centres throughout Waterloo Region, one on Doon Campus and four at public elementary schools. The centres operate as an integral part of the Early Childhood Education Program and reflect the philosophy taught to the Early Childhood Education students.
We believe that children develop and learn best in a warm nurturing environment, which is child-centred. Play and creativity are the foundations as staff plan for individuals and groups of children. Through a partnership with the child’s family our goal is to assist the child in developing self-confidence, respect for others and help the child grow towards self-discipline and self-control.
Our centres are staffed by Early Childhood Educators who are graduates of community college and/or university level programs. We have chosen them for their caring, warmth and understanding with children, as well as for their proven skills and knowledge. In addition, student teachers from our Early Childhood Education Program participate under the direct supervision of staff and faculty. These students take part in placements for an entire semester, to gain practical experience in working with children. We believe they make a valuable contribution to our centres and add to the quality of the experience for the children.
The child care centres are open to college students, college employees and members of the local community. As lengthy waiting lists often exist it is recommended that you contact the child care centre of your choice well before you want care to commence. Spaces are filled on a first come first serve basis. Fees are established on an annual basis and available by contacting any one of our locations. Fee subsidies are available to some parents from local municipal social services or child care divisions. Contact information is available from any of our centres.
