About the Program

The Mechanical Techniques - Industrial Millwright program will prepare graduates for rewarding careers in the manufacturing industry in various positions in the area of mechanical repairs and maintenance. The program creates exciting hands-on and theoretical learning opportunities for the students to acquire technical skills, knowledge and attitudes fundamental to successful employment in the manufacturing industry. The program supports the acquisition of strong trade-related academic skills, advanced health and safety concepts and practices, as well as the foundation technical skills needed for maintenance operations in the manufacturing industry. The program emphasizes skills development applicable to installation, maintenance, repairing and troubleshooting of heavy industrial and plant equipment, ensuring that graduates will possess the ability to identify mechanical system problems at a fundamental level, and to inspect and test basic mechanical components and systems. To function effectively in the complex working environment of the manufacturing industry, graduates of this program will develop skills through the use of technical documentation, information technology, computer skills and AutoCAD. This program covers all the learning outcomes for level 1 and level 2 of the related apprenticeship program in Ontario. A graduate of this program may not be required to complete the in-school apprenticeship training or take an exemption exam for levels 1 and 2 should they choose to pursue an industrial millwright apprenticeship.
