About the Program

The Motive Power Fundamentals - Automotive Repair program will prepare individuals to pursue a career in the automotive service/repair industry. This program is designed to provide the student with a strong basis in trade-related academics, safety training, and the foundation technical skills needed for employment in the automotive industry. Graduates of the program will have demonstrated the ability to identify basic automotive system problems and to inspect and test basic automotive components and systems. Graduates will have developed safe working practices in the use of tools, machinery, and equipment and will be able to apply basic communication, documentation, information technology, and computer skills to support an automotive related working environment. This program covers all learning outcomes for level 1 of the related apprenticeship program in Ontario. A graduate of this program may not be required to complete the in-school apprenticeship training or take an exemption exam for level 1 should they choose to pursue an automotive service technician apprenticeship.
