Re-integration into an ever changing workforce can be a daunting task. Conestoga Career Centres can assist you to explore upgrading and re-training options that will help you set goals that suit your expectations. One option may be the Targeted Initiative for Older Workers program, provided by Conestoga College though the New Horizons for Experienced Workers program.
Targeted Initiative for Older Workers, (TIOW) is a joint federal-provincial initiative intended to provide employment assistance to older workers who are unemployed or working less than 20 hours per week. Experienced workers who lack skills needed for successful re-integration into employment will benefit most from this funded program. Several factors are considered when determining program suitability including eligibility, commitment to full participation, and the applicant’s need for this type of programming.
New Horizons sessions begin with a 2 week (minimum 25 hours/week) Employment Assistance Program to explore career/work options by creating a self-portrait of skills, work values, lifestyle/health needs and work interests. Participants will also be assisted by Career Work Coaches to determine at least two employability improvement activities to complete such as learning assessments, basic skills upgrading, specific skills and/or certification training, and employer based work experiences.
Information sessions are available at the Guelph Campus the first and third Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. There is no need to register, simply show up or call the Guelph Conestoga Welcome Centre 519-824-9390 ext. 6332 for more info.
The TIOW program supports laid-off unemployed or underemployed workers who require skills training for employment in high-skill, demand occupations in the local labour market. Note services are available in English and by request in French.
Participants must meet the following criteria:
Attend an information session at the Guelph Career Centre or drop in to speak with staff at one of the Conestoga Career Centres.
Training opportunities available through the New Horizons for Experienced Workers Program (TIOW).
