
The Pathways to Essential Skills (pdf) project is a partnership between Conestoga College and the Linamar Corporation. Linamar HR staff will work with an Essential Skills Expert from Conestoga College to become “Black Belts” in Essential Skills using the Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES) online curriculum and the Pathways Roadmap web tool, which is being specially created for this project. With mentoring from a Conestoga College Essential Skills Expert, Linamar HR staff will work with employees at three Linamar plants in Guelph as they upgrade their Essential Skills.
By the end of the project:
The knowledge and expertise gained by the Linamar HR staff will ensure the longevity of these efforts, beyond the funding of this project, and far into the future.
Essential Skills are the skills needed for work, learning and life. They provide the foundation for learning all other skills and enable people to evolve with their jobs and adapt to workplace change. The Essential Skills are: Reading Text, Document Use, Numeracy, Writing, Oral Communication, Working with Others, Continuous Learning, Thinking Skills, and Computer Use.
