Trades & Apprenticeship

Retooling for the Trades

“Retooling for the Trades” is a service offered through the School of Career and Academic Access to current apprentices as well as individuals interested in entering apprenticeship training. The service is designed to assist you in preparing for and completing apprenticeship training successfully.

The process is simple: Measure your Essential Skills levels and compare them against the levels of Essential Skills required for your chosen trade, the trade standards. If you need to improve some of your skills, we work with you to develop an individual plan for you to upskill only the skills you need - at your own pace, and then check again to see how far you’ve come.

Result: Increased Essential Skills will help you learn better, do better and get to success faster in the trades!

Why is Retooling for the Trades important?

  • Only 1/3 of apprentices actually complete their training
  • Ontario needs many more trades people, so the job prospects are excellent
