General Education Development (GED)

The GED is an Ontario High School Equivalent Certificate for adults who have been unable to complete high school. The GED certificate is recognized by the Ontario government and by other Canadian Provinces, by employers for application to employment, and by educational institutions to apply to a training
or educational program.

Conestoga’s GED Preparation courses prepare you to successfully write the GED Test.

The Communications course strengthens your communication skills in reading comprehension, grammar fundamentals, and paragraph and essay writing in order to prepare you to write the Language Arts sections of the GED: Writing and Reading.

The Mathematics course will increase your skills in math so you are ready to answer the GED test questions covering a variety of mathematical topics.

In addition you will be prepared to answer the Social Studies and Science questions.

How to obtain the GED Certificate

The GED certificate is obtained by passing the GED exam set by the Ministry of Education. It requires the candidate to understand, analyze and critique chosen passages.

To be eligible to write the exams you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old and out of high school for one year
  • Not have a high school diploma
  • Be a resident of Ontario
