Situations Requiring Immediate Referral

Suicide: (Recognizing Signs of Students At-Risk for Suicide) If a student makes a direct or indirect reference to suicide, bring him/her immediately to Counselling or ask a counsellor to come to your area. Judgment about the seriousness of the circumstances should not be made without consultation from a mental health professional. After hours, contact Campus Security (Emergency Contacts - Campus), the Mobile Crisis Team 24/7 (519-744-1813 or toll free 1-866-366-4566), or the Emergency Dept. of your local hospital. If you are unsure how to approach the student or the student is unwilling to see a counsellor, consult immediately with a counsellor. (Location & Hours). If a student makes a direct threat of suicide and insists on leaving, call Campus Security or 911 immediately. In the event of an actual suicide attempt, call 911 and Campus Security.
