
Our professionally trained counsellors offer individual counselling for students who identify personal barriers that are interfering with their success at Conestoga College. Some common personal issues include: stress, transition to college, relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, thoughts of suicide, sexual assault or abuse, sexuality, low self-esteem, domestic violence, anger, grief, loss, trauma, health issues, and eating disorders. Referrals can also be made to community resources regarding personal issues or for specialized treatment programs.
When personal barriers, obstacles or challenges negatively affect career decision making, counsellors can assist with these challenges. The end result is to help ensure for a more informed career decision making process, leading to a greater likelihood for personal satisfaction and success. For more direct career needs, Counsellors refer students to Career Services.
Students experiencing financial barriers to their college success can speak with a counsellor to gain support in dealing with their financial difficulties. Common financial difficulties for students include money management problems, short-term cash shortages, or insufficient financial resources for the academic year. Options available for students include assistance with budgeting, exploration of external resources, food and emergency financial assistance, and referrals to the Financial Aid Office for bursaries and OSAP. Counsellors can also refer you to debt counselling programs in the community.
