OLRN1111 Fraud Investigation

Description: In today's society fraud is becoming more prevalent. Fraud is used to obtain funds from a multitude of sources to support criminal activity and for personal gain, on an increasing worldwide scale. This course will help students to learn how to identify and investigate the offence of fraud and offences related to fraud. This course will help students learn resources that are available to investigators and how to use the recourses, to be able to gather evidence for court purposes. Students will be introduced privacy legislation, regulatory bodies and self regulating agencies under both Provincial and Federal legislation and some of the related offences. Students will learn how and where to gather evidence of an offence. Students will learn some of the investigative tools available to assist in the detection and prosecution of offences. This course is designed for those who are looking to enter the field of investigating fraud and for those wishing to enhance previous education and training in the area of investigations and law enforcement. Using fact based matters to introduce how to investigate matters related to fraud in any workplace, this course will be of value to anyone, including private investigators and those in the banking and the insurance industries. At the end of the course each student will be able to describe and understand how to investigate offences, more specifically fraud related offences including the offences of Fraud, False Pretences, Personation, Theft, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Credit card fraud, Forgery and Uttering a Forged Document.
