Information Session Presentation
The two year Early Childhood Education (ECE) program prepares individuals for entry-level positions with young children in a licensed child care setting.
Students explore the development of children and apply that knowledge to plan, implement and evaluate quality programs for young children in licensed child care settings. Facilitating children's development of a positive self-concept through creativity, play and diversity is the main theme of the ECE program. The program is based on the premise that children learn and develop best in an environment that is child-centered and primarily child-directed with strong family involvement and support.
An on-campus curriculum lab supports students' learning. In excess of 600 hours of field placement experiences and an emphasis on self-reflection give students the opportunity to solidify and demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attitudes required of an ECE.
Graduates of the ECE program meet the academic and field work requirements for certification by the Association of Early Childhood Educators in Ontario .
The ECE program meets the standards set out by the Program Quality Unit of the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
