TurnItIn

Turnitin.com is both a teaching tool and a source faculty can use to check for suspected plagiarism in a student's submitted work. Individual faculty members can set up accounts with Turnitin.com and then either students or the faculty member can submit the work to a digital drop box. Once a paper is submitted, it is compared in its entirety to:

• all pages found on the Internet, even those no longer online
• all previously submitted papers to Turnitin.com

Many faculty members are currently using it as a help in editing papers. Faculty are registering their classes, setting up assignments and giving students time to submit drafts of their papers. Students then have an opportunity to redo their papers before submitting them to their professors at the final due date. This is a powerful demonstration to students that faculty do indeed care about the quality of their papers and the students' credibility.
