CEDP is a teacher training program coordinated by a group of representatives from six Southwestern Ontario Colleges: Mohawk College in Hamilton, Conestoga College in Kitchener, Lambton College in Sarnia, Fanshawe College in London, Niagara College in Welland, and St. Clair College in Windsor.
Conestoga offers CEDP as a teacher training opportunity to help prepare newly-hired faculty and instructors for their classroom teaching assignments.
Conestoga College has made completing the three Phases of CEDP a mandatory requirement for new full-time faculty.
The three Phases are completed over three calendar years (August, May, June) or two academic years (The probationary period for new full-time faculty).
The program offers an opportunity for new teachers to develop and practice skills in a supportive environment. Through its residential nature (teachers live in the college’s student dorm) and team structure, the program fosters support for new teachers and encourages ongoing discussion of teaching ideas, experiences, challenges and successes.
Phase I of CEDP is a short, concentrated introduction to concepts essential for those working in the classroom, such as:
In Phase I, participants are encouraged to develop materials and skills relevant to their teaching assignments. Networking, community and team building, sharing of resources, expertise, and insights are promoted. For example, as part of the Phase I experience, teachers plan and present a microteach session to their peers.
Phases II and III continue to develop teaching skills and professionalism in college teaching. CEDP recognizes that teachers need information on best practices in teaching and they need support from others through their first years of teaching in areas that range from classroom management to evaluation and student engagement.
Phase IV is open to all graduates of CEDP (you may remember it as Ridgetown Teacher Program). It is a teaching and learning forum for faculty and by faculty. A forum for educators to meet, share, explore and talk teaching. This three-day forum will be packed with events designed to enrich our teaching practice. Participants share ideas, insights, experiences, information and resources. Together, we will raise issues and ask questions as we explore topics in sessions, between them and over meals.
Registration packages for CEDP are sent out approximately five weeks prior to each event.
If you are new full-time faculty, feel free to contact Kathryn (kbrillinger@conestogac.on.ca) to verify that you are on the list of expected attendees for a particular phase.
