Trades and Apprenticeship Program Awards

The Annual Trades & Apprenticeship Awards are presented by Conestoga College in partnership with our many industry partners. The Annual Awards Presentation is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our students and apprentices while also acknowledging our tremendous industry support.

Altruck International Truck Centres Inc.
Established in 1977, Altruck International has grown to carry the total transportation package. Altruck continues to support Conestoga through its involvement in Program Advisory Committees and has established this award to support students in the Motive Power Fundamentals - Truck and Coach Technician program.

Brad Wilson Memorial Award
This award has been established in memory of Brad Wilson, a 2007 grad of Conestoga's Electrical Engineering program who was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident at the age of 34. Brad was a former resident of Ingersoll and had moved west to work as a lineman and serviceman for ATCO.

This award has been established by Tony and Henry Camilo in memory of their brother Carlos, who was killed in a tragic workplace accident at the age of 41. This award is to highlight the importance of knowledge and understanding with respect to safety requirements while working.

Colin Di Castri Memorial Award
The Colin Di Castri Memorial Award has been established by his family to honour the memory of this special man who dedicated himself to producing the best millwrights he could through a lifetime of teaching and helping others. Colin prided himself on going above and beyond and this was demonstrated through the extra tutoring and support he consistently provided to his students.

Don Lockhart Memorial Award
Mr. Lockhart was a co-founder and president of D & J Lockhart Excavators Ltd. since its incorporation in 1990. Mr. Lockhart spent his entire career not only in and around heavy equipment, but also for twenty-four years as an aggregate producer. In combination with the Ontario Stone Sand & Gravel Association of which Don was a member, D & J Lockhart Excavator's Ltd. would like to create a memorial grant in his honour.

The Gerry Wunder Memorial Endowed Scholarships
Gerard Wunder ("Gerry" to his colleagues) was a tool and die maker who worked for 49 years at Ontario Die Company (ODC). Two awards have been established to honour Gerry’s memory and reward student excellence and resourcefulness in problem solving.

Glasvan Great Dane Truck Trailer Service Technician Scholarship
With over 25 years of experience, Glasvan Great Dane Sales Inc. is a full service provider of new and used Great Dane trailers and has established itself as the premiere trailer sales and distributorship in the country. The Glasvan Great Dane Truck Trailer Service Technician Scholarship is funded by an endowed fund sponsored by Glasvan Great Dane Sales Inc., and is administered by the OTA Education Foundation, Inc.

Greg White Achievement Award
This award has been established in honour of Greg White, Chair of the School of Trades and Apprenticeship upon his retirement. Greg retired in December 2013, after more than 30 years in the college system. Greg truly inspired the next generation of trades people through his passion, leadership and foresight, and significantly contributed to the development of Conestoga's trades programs, making Conestoga one of the premiere trades and apprenticeship schools in the country.

Ignac "Ness" Leskovar Memorial Award
Ignac “Ness” Leskovar was a man dedicated to his family and his life work as a mechanical and shop owner. He owned and ran Delta Transmission in Kitchener for over 40 years before he sold the company to retire. Even upon his retirement, he went into the shop daily to help out. He helped many people and even took on many co-op students over the years. In dedication to him and his ‘pay-it-forward’ attitude, friends have established this award in his honour.

Linamar Corporation Skilled Industrial Trades Scholarship
Linamar Corporation is offering six scholarships for students who have been selected for admission into the Mechanical Technician - General Machinist program at Conestoga College, renewable in second year if the student maintains a GPA of 3.0 in the first and second semester of the program. Two of the six awards will be reserved for Linamar employees or their family provided they have met the admission requirements.

Steve Bates Memorial Award
Mr. Steve Bates was born in Guelph, Ontario and worked from a young age with his family for Bates Excavating. Mr. Bates spent most of his career working in and around heavy equipment, and for his last 5 years, he worked as a technologist for the Heavy Equipment Operator program at the Guelph Campus of Conestoga College. Chris and Kari Woof are pleased to establish this memorial award in his honour.
