About the Program

Gain a broad but integrated education in the field of business, with particular emphasis on small and medium sized enterprises (SME's). Areas of study include English, accounting, finance, marketing, manufacturing, personnel management as well as computer applications in business such as word processing, spreadsheet analysis, database management and computerized accounting. This innovative and flexible business program is delivered in 3 different formats, some allowing you to complete your program in a shorter period of time than the typical 2-years. Graduates will be prepared for a wide variety of careers in business, general administration and government. The program emphasis will also help potential entrepreneurs evaluate their small and medium business investment opportunities.

Program Facts

Length: Two-year Ontario College Diploma program for the September intake dates. The January intake is delivered in 4 consecutive semesters or 16 months. The May intake is delivered in a compressed format of 11 months. The program is also available part-time.
Location: Doon (Kitchener), Guelph and Brantford
Start: September (Doon, Guelph and Brantford) and January and May (Doon only)
First-Year Capacity: 80 (Doon-Sept), 30 (Guelph-Sept), 65 (Doon-Jan), 35 (Doon-May)

Admission Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent or 19 years of age or older with mature student status. (See Mature Student Definition for details.)
  • Grade 12 compulsory English, C or U, or equivalent, OR Conestoga College Preparatory Communications (COMM1270).
  • Grade 11 Mathematics, C, M(U/C), or U, or equivalent, OR Conestoga College Preparatory Mathematics (MATH1375)

Note:

  • English and/or mathematics testing may be required.

Admission Procedures

  • An academic strength is calculated by averaging the submitted marks of required subjects. If more than one mark is received for a required subject, the highest mark will be used in the calculation.
  • Ten (10) additional marks are added to each Advanced level, OAC, U, U/C course used in the calculation of academic strength.
  • Twenty (20) additional marks are added to each post-secondary course used in the calculation of academic strength.
  • A sound mathematical and English background is important for success in this program and is considered during the admission selection process. Minimum cutoffs apply.

  • Strong mathematical skills and familiarity with computers is recommended.

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)

Adults with significant life and work experience may receive credits toward a college certificate or diploma program through a prior learning assessment process (PLAR). Prior learning must be measurable at the college level and meet Conestoga standards of achievement for current courses . PLAR process is not used for admission process. Obtaining credits for courses linked to a specific program does not guarantee entrance into the program. Financial Assistance

Program Advisory Committees

The College appoints Program Advisory Committee members for diploma, degree, certificate and apprenticeship programs. Committees are composed of employers, practitioners and recent program graduates. College representatives (students, faculty, and administrators) are resource persons. Each committee advises the Board on the development of new programs, the monitoring of existing programs and community acceptance of programs.
