About the Program

The Business Administration - Materials and Operations Management program is located in our Centre for Business Education at the Doon Campus. The program is designed to prepare the graduate for a professional career in the growing field of operations and supply chain management. Graduates of this program will find success in the public, industrial, retail/wholesale, service and private sectors of the economy. Further, graduates of this program will assume leadership roles as business professionals in areas such as purchasing/procurement, resource planning and control, inventory management, supply chain management, logistics, warehousing and distribution, and operations management. The central theme in the program curriculum is continuous improvement. Businesses today are under unprecedented competitive pressures from around the world. The Materials and Operations Management Program develops graduates with the skills needed to lead the continuous improvement effort in their organizations, thereby ensuring a competitive advantage and long term profitability.

Partnerships with professional associations including PMAC (Purchasing Management Association of Canada), APICS (The Association for Operations Management), and SCL (Supply Chain and Logistics Association of Canada) afford students in the program the opportunity to network with professionals and work toward recognized professional designations while at school.

Note: First-year students meeting specific performance criteria may be eligible for the Co-op option.

Co-op Information

  • This program offers both a co-op and a non co-op format.
  • There are limited seats available.
  • Students who have been accepted into the non Co-op option may apply to transfer to the Co-op option after successful completion of first-year studies and having met the minimum Co-op requirements noted below.
  • To ensure successful completion of your program, it may be necessary to relocate or commute during co-op work terms.
  • Applicants apply to either the co-op or the non co-op option.
  • Co-operative Education features six academic terms in college and three work terms in business and industry.

Admission Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, OR 19 years of age or older.
  • Grade 12 compulsory English, C or U, or equivalent, OR Conestoga College Preparatory Communications (COMM1270).
  • Grade 12 Mathematics, C or U, or equivalent, OR Conestoga College Preparatory Mathematics (MATH1375).

Note:

  • English and/or mathematics testing may be required.

Admission Procedures

  • Academic strength is calculated by averaging all submitted senior level secondary school marks or test results (or equivalent) of the required subjects.
  • Ten (10) additional marks are added to each Advanced level, OAC, U, U/C, or post-secondary course used in the calculation of the academic strength.
  • Twenty (20) additional marks are added to each post-secondary course used in the calculation of the academic strength.
  • A sound mathematical and English background is important for success in this program and is considered during the admission process. Minimum cutoffs apply.

Note:

  • Familiarity with the Windows computerized environment would be an asset.
  • To maintain eligibility for the Co-op option students must successfully complete all Year 1 courses (no failed courses) and attain a minimum combined average of 70% in the following first year courses;

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)

Adults with significant life and work experience may receive credits toward a college certificate or diploma program through an assessment process. The learning may have taken place through employment, non-credit courses, independent study, conferences and seminars or volunteer activities. Prior learning must be measurable at the college level and meet Conestoga's standards of achievement for current courses. Evaluation is done through a challenge exam or portfolio development. Successful completion results in a credit on a Conestoga College transcript.
