About the Program

The innovative three-year Electrical Engineering Technology program has been designed to prepare the student with both theoretical and practical experience, enabling them to work in a wide variety of electrical engineering areas inlcuding alternative energy and process control. After the first two years from which the student has gained experience with electrical motors, controls, PLCs, generators, transformers and their industrial applications, students choose, in the third year of this program, one of two options they wish to specialize in. In third year, students can pursue either the Alternative Energy option or Process Control option.

The Alternative Energy option prepares the student for this fast-growing field to work with wind turbines, photovoltaic systems, geothermal, micro-hydro, bio-fuels and various other alternative energy systems.

The Process Control option continues with advanced PLC applications as applied to a variety of industrial processes including machine controls, PID controls, batching operations, remote monitoring and servo systems.

Note: Students with MAP4C will be considered for admission via the Technology Foundations program.

Admission Requirements

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, OR 19 years of age or older.
Grade 12 compulsory English, C or U, or equivalent, OR Conestoga College Preparatory Communications (COMM1270).
Grade 12 Mathematics, C or U (MCT4C, MHF4U, MCV4U) or equivalent, or Conestoga College Preparatory Mathematics For Technology & Apprenticeship (MATH1385)

o Applicants with MAP4C or MDM4U will only be considered after writing the college Math Admissions test. (Minimum grade cut-offs will apply)

Note:

English and/or mathematics testing may be required.
Applicants not meeting the math admission requirements will be contacted to arrange for testing to assess mathematical ability.

Admission Procedures

Academic strength is calculated by averaging all submitted senior level secondary school marks or test results (or equivalent) of the required subjects.
Ten (10) additional marks are added to each Advanced level, OAC, U, U/C course used in the calculation of academic strength.
Twenty (20) additional marks are added to each post-secondary course used in the calculation of academic strength.
A sound mathematical background is important for success in this program and is considered during the admission selection process. Minimum cutoffs apply.

Note:

Grade 11 or 12 Physics or Science or Conestoga College Preparatory Physics, technical shops/labs, technical drafting, electricity, electronics, are desirable but not mandatory.
Applicants are assumed to have basic computer literacy.

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)

Adults with significant life and work experience may receive credits toward a college certificate or diploma program through an assessment process. The learning may have taken place through employment, non-credit courses, independent study, conferences and seminars or volunteer activities. Prior learning must be measurable at the college level and meet Conestoga's standards of achievement for current courses. Evaluation is done through a challenge exam or portfolio development. Successful completion results in a credit on a Conestoga College transcript.
