About the ProgramThis program is designed to prepare individuals to operate a records management program in various organizational settings including businesses, non-profit organizations and government agencies. With the increasing production of, and demand for, complex information and the widespread use of automated technologies the effective and efficient management of information assets is critical. Records and information management programs contribute to the efficiency of an organization's operations by providing systematic control of information resources, from creation through use, storage and final disposition.

- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, OR 19 years of age or older
- Grade 12 Compulsory English, C or U, or equivalent.
Note re: Admission Requirements
- Students must be able to receive instruction, respond and research in the English language.
- Submit a completed Conestoga College Program Application Form.

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)Conestoga recognizes prior learning of skills, knowledge or competencies that have been acquired through employment, formal and informal education, non-formal learning or other life experiences. Prior learning must be measurable at the required academic level and meet Conestoga standards of achievement for current courses. Challenge exams and portfolio development are the primary methods of assessment. Other methods of assessment may be available depending upon the nature of the course objectives. Successful completion of the assessment results in an official course credit that will be recorded on the student's Conestoga transcript. PLAR cannot be used by registered Conestoga students for the clearance of academic deficiencies, to improve grades or to obtain admission into a program.

Description: This course will familiarize students with the applications contained in the Microsoft Office Pro Edition which contains Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.
Description: In this course, develop understanding of archival theory and practice to manage archival records effectively. Topics include the relationship between archives and records management, acquisition and appraisal, arrangement and description, reference services, preventive conservation, and facility planning and security.

Description: Recommended: Grade 12 English at the general level or equivalent.
This online course introduces the records lifecycle and establishes a solid basis in records management concepts and techniques. Records inventorying, retention and destruction scheduling, inactive and vital records management and the application of records management practices to electronic records are emphasized.

Description: This course provides an introduction to the skills and techniques needed to effectively manage and control active records in various formats. File plan development, typical filing systems, storage systems and equipment, and file maintenance procedures will be covered. Prerequisite: Records and Information Management Fundamentals
|LIBR1280||Document Management Technology
Description: An introduction to electronic documents, imaging and micrographic technology is provided in this course. You will explore how these technologies can be applied to records management, short and long term storage and retrieval for active and inactive documents. Topics covered include, metadata, life expectancy of electronic storage media, secure storage media, migration, and image file formats.

Organizational Business Communications
Description: Here's an opportunity to hone essential business communication concepts and skills with emphasis on writing clear reports and documentation, making effective presentations, and enhancing interpersonal skills.
Researching and Reporting
Description: In this course communication skills are developed through hands-on application. Students can choose examples related to their careers. Participants define a problem, collect research using print sources, the Internet, interviews and questionnaires, and present their findings in reports. Recommended prerequisite: Post-secondary basic level communications course.
