Scholarship and Awards

Information and application forms for all awards, bursaries and scholarships administered by the Financial Aid and Student Awards Office are emailed to all students via their Conestoga College email accounts. Students should check their College email addresses frequently.

In addition to the awards offered through the Financial Aid and Student Awards Office there are also many program-specific awards administered by individual programs. Students should talk to their faculty or program co-ordinators about additional awards co-ordinated by their programs.

What is an Award?
An award is a gift, sum of money, or citation given to recognize achievement in some capacity.

What is a Bursary?
A bursary is money, or equivalent compensation, to allow you to continue full-time studies. It is based on need, but acceptable progress is also considered...

What is a Scholarship?
A scholarship is money, or equivalent, granted towards the expense of further study. It is based on academic achievement, but need is also considered. Scholarship donors set the selection criteria.

OSAP ( Ontario Student Assistance Program)  

Conestoga College Student Assistance Fund Bursary
The Conestoga College Student Assistance Fund (CCSAF) Bursary is a non-repayable award given on the basis of financial need. The CCSAF Bursary Program is established on a yearly basis with revenue generated from tuition fee increases. It is designed to assist with second semester costs.

Students who are registered in a two-semester program in which the “in-school?study periods occur consecutively may apply. In order to qualify you must meet the residency requirements as defined by the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP).
Application Forms are available from the Financial Aid Office or from Student Services at Doon and Campus Administration at Guelph and Waterloo Campuses in September. Application due dates will be advertised ?students must apply by the deadline date.

The Conestoga College Entrance Award
This award has been established to recognize academic achievement and also to assist first-year students attending Conestoga College who demonstrate financial need.

In order to qualify for this award students must have the required overall grade average upon completion of his or her most recent year in a recognized secondary or post-secondary education institution other than Conestoga College . Students must be registered in the first year of a ministry-approved certificate, diploma or degree program. Students must be able to demonstrate financial need and meet the residency requirements.

The President's Degree Entrance Scholarship Series - Students do not apply.
Successful candidates will:

  • have achieved high marks in the required entrance courses 6 of which must be university mandatory level
  • be coming directly from secondary school with a maximum time allotment of one year out of school
  • have demonstrated above average performance in the first eight weeks of their first semester enrolled in a degree program at Conestoga College

Criteria such as leadership, class performance, and dedication to studies will rank higher than overall marks from secondary school and will be reviewed at the discretion of the Office of the VP Academic.

Scholarship Value:

  • $1500.00 first place scholarships
  • $1000.00 Second place scholarships

Awards will be applied directly against the students' accounts to offset the cost of their second term tuition at Conestoga College .

The Conestoga College Achievement Award
This award has been established to promote academic excellence for those students who have a demonstrated financial need.
In order to qualify for this award, students must have attained the required overall grade average at the end of the academic year (a minimum of two semesters are required). The Student Achievement Record must not include incompletes, failing grades or Did Not Finish (DNAs). Students must be considered full-time and be promoted and returning into year two or three of a ministry approved diploma/degree program. Students must be considered full-time, demonstrate financial need and meet the residency requirements.

The James W. Church Award
This award honours Dr. James W. Church, founding president of Conestoga College . To be eligible students must graduate with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75 of a Diploma , Ontario College Diploma or Ontario College Advanced Diploma or Degree; demonstrate concern for the dignity of the individual in society and make a contribution of benefit to society.
The award in the amount of $1000.00 and a framed Program Guild Shield is presented annually at Convocation.

Conestoga College Mastercraft Award
In 1980, past- president Kenneth E. Hunter established the Mastercraft Award to recognize student achievement of excellence in program-related skills. To qualify for The Mastercraft Award entries must first be selected as winners at the program level.

Projects are judged on first impression, innovation, creativity, skill and quality.

The winner(s) of the Mastercraft Award receives a cash award and is recognized with a program Guild Shield bearing the winner's name inscribed in silver.

The Mastercraft Award is presented at Conestoga College 's Convocation ceremonies.

Academic Awards

Governor General's Academic Medal
A bronze medal goes to the graduating student with the highest academic grade average for all courses in a diploma program.

The College recognizes exceptional academic achievement by its students both during their studies and upon graduation. To this end, as set out below, there will be five categories of academic recognition - one annual and four upon graduation.

President's Honour List
Award to the graduating student in each diploma, graduate certificate and applied degree program who obtains the highest average in the program.

Criteria: The average for all courses of the Program Design must be a minimum of 90%, with no failed courses.

Graduation with High Distinction
Recognition upon graduation for all students registered in diploma/graduate certificate/degree programs.
Criteria: An average of 90% or greater for all courses of the Program Design, with no failed courses.

Graduation with Distinction
Recognition upon graduation for all students registered in diploma/graduate certificate/degree programs.
Criteria: An average of between 80-89% in all courses of the Program Design, with no failed courses.

Conestoga Honour List
Recognition upon graduation for all students registered in Ontario college certificate and apprenticeship programs
Criteria: An average of 80% or greater for all courses of the Program Design, or for Apprentices all levels of their program, with no failed courses.
