
In response to Ontario's economic challenges, Budget 2009 provided more than $1 billion over five years for a new Southern Ontario development agency. The agency's programs will support economic and community development, innovation, and economic diversification, with contributions to communities, businesses and non-profit organizations. It will help workers, communities and businesses in Southern Ontario position themselves to take advantage of opportunities, as economic growth recovers in Canada and around the world.

NSERC supports both basic university research through discovery grants and project research through partnerships among universities, governments and the private sector, as well as the advanced training of highly qualified people.”
The National Research Council (NRC) is the Government of Canada's premier organization for research and development, and has been active since 1916. NRC contributes to Canada and all Canadians through leading-edge research and development that helps build Canada's innovation and technology capacity; supports the growth of Canadian industry; and uncovers solutions to national challenges in health, climate change, the environment, clean energy and other fields. NRC research strengths are organized around key sectors such as biotechnology, information and communication technologies, measurement standards, molecular sciences, aerospace, manufacturing, construction, ocean engineering and others.
The Small Business Internship Program provides small and medium-sized businesses financial support to hire a post secondary student intern to assist them in their adoption of information and communications technologies to increase their productivity and competitiveness. Industry Canada's SBIP is a collaborative effort with Canadian small businesses, post-secondary institutions, and non-government organizations that offer promising post-secondary students hands-on experience working on e-commerce projects under the mentorship and coaching of entrepreneurs. Student interns will gain an appreciation of entrepreneurship, and an opportunity to explore career possibilities.
The Growing Canadian Agri-Innovations Program will support industry-led innovation initiatives that help get new agricultural products into the marketplace and improve agricultural processes. Initiative under the Program will help to build an innovative and competitive agricultural sector by encouraging industry leadership and investment in agricultural science and innovation. The Program will be delivered nationally by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada as part of the federal commitment to Growing Forward, which is a new framework for support to Canada's agricultural sector that's focused on achieving results, reflects input from across the sector, and will deliver programs that are simpler, more effective and tailored to local needs.
“The objective of the Idea to Innovation (I2I) Program is to accelerate the pre-competitive development of promising technology and promote its transfer to Canadian companies. The program supports research and development projects with recognized technology transfer potential by providing crucial assistance to college and university faculty members in the early stages of technology validation and market connection. The program provides funding to college and university faculty members, through defined stages, for research and development activities leading to technology transfer to a new or established Canadian company.”

It aims to excel in the creation of new health knowledge, and to translate that knowledge from the research setting into real world applications. As the major federal agency responsible for funding health research in Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) supports more than 10,000 researchers and staff each year.”

Requests for proposals in adult learning, structured learning, work and learning, Aboriginal learning and early childhood learning have been issued at different times in the last few years. Independent, peer reviewers have adjudicated proposals for applied research based on their conceptual and technical merit. ”
