How We Can Help With Your Research Needs

Why should you partner with Conestoga?

Research can be a risky endeavor, but we can help minimize the risk to your organization by sharing the research experience. We bring resources to the table which may not otherwise be available to you, including skilled researchers with hands-on experience, a qualified student research base, state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, opportunities for funding support, and knowledge of research resources and expertise outside the College.

What if you can't meet my needs?

Conestoga is here to help your organization. If we can't meet your research needs, we will be happy to work with you to identify the appropriate resources to meet your needs. Conestoga is willing to engage in collaborative partnerships with other academic institutions and consultants to maximize resources for your research.

Who will do the research?

The Office of Applied Research will work closely with you to identify the best researcher for the job. All of Conestoga research projects involve Conestoga students, usually those in their senior year of a program. Specialized technicians may also become involved in the research depending on the equipment needs.

What are your research capabilities?

Conestoga employs over 300 full-time faculty…

Conestoga has state-of-the-art equipment that supports our academic programs. In addition, through two Ontario Innovation Trust (OIT) infrastructure grants totaling over $2.6 million, Conestoga has enhanced its research infrastructure in two strategic research areas: advanced manufacturing and built [building] environments. Please contact us for additional information on our infrastructure resources.

How long will the research take?

We will work with you to develop a research protocol that meets your time schedule. Two options are available: direct contact with faculty (most expedient) or through final year, course-based research projects (takes longer, but more cost effective).

Where will the research be conducted?

Depending on your research, equipment and facility needs, we can conduct the research on- or off-campus (in-house at your organization).

Who will own the research?

Conestoga's intellectual property policy states that Conestoga researchers own any intellectual property developed as a result of research. However, the policy also states that in contract research with an external organization, the company may own the intellectual property. We will work with you to develop contract terms appropriate to your research needs. A copy of the College's intellectual property policy.

What about confidentiality?

College researchers are under no requirement to publish the results of research in the same way that university researchers are required to publish. As a publicly funded institution, Conestoga can not conduct “secret” research. We will, however, work with your organization to ensure that your intellectual property rights are protected. At a minimum Conestoga maintains the right to publish the name of its research partners, the title of research projects, and the amount of funding awarded.
