
The Respect Leaders help support and promote Conestoga College’s student Respect Campaign.
These specially-trained students provide leadership through positive role modeling and action for key Respect Campaign initiatives, including the facilitation and delivery of Respect Campaign video presentations to classes and groups of student leaders on campus.
This paid leadership opportunity also supports the Respect Campaign by being active facilitators on the Respect Rep team. The Leaders also help to lead Respect outreach, including hosting the Respect Campaign display at key campus events.
Respect Leader position applications are made available in March each year in the Student Life Office.
Danielle Hughes – Year Two, Respiratory Therapy
Danielle is a grad from the Pre-Health Sciences program and is in the Respiratory Therapy program. Danielle is returning a second year as a Respect Leader, bringing a wealth of experience working with individuals from various backgrounds. Some of Danielle's past experience includes working for Fiddicks Nursing Home, the Participation House in Kitchener and KW Extend-A-Family. Danielle is also strongly connected to the Conestoga Community through her past membership on the Respect Campaign Student Committee and as an Orientation Leader. Last year, Danielle helped to organize a number of initiatives as Respect Leader, including the Clothesline Project event for International Women’s Day.
David Parbhakar – Year Two, Broadcast Journalism
David was a strong Respect Student Committee member throughout the 2010-2011 academic year and joins the Respect Leader team for 2011. In the Broadcast Journalism program, Dave comes to Conestoga with a strong background in team facilitation, having been a past Call Centre Supervisor and Quality Assurance Leader in Training and Development for iQor. David is also an active Student Life Department volunteer, helping out with past events such as the Get Involved Fair.
Emily Morley – Year Two, Recreation & Leisure Services
In the summer 2011, Emily interned for the Student Life Department as a Civic Engagement Intern. A graduate from the Human Service Foundations program and now in the Recreation & Leisure Services program, Emily has been an eager contributor to the Conestoga community. Emily participated in past fundraising events at Conestoga, including United Way fundraising and a fundraiser for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, through Campus Service Learning initiatives in her programs. Emily also actively volunteers in the community, having been a nursery leader at St. Alban's Anglican Church in Glen Williams and a youth program facilitator at Rainbows in Glen Williams.
Holly Featherstone – Year One, BA in Public Relations
A graduate from the Print & Broadcast Journalism program at Conestoga in 2008, Holly has returned this year to Conestoga for the Public Relations degree program. Holly hasn't been a stranger to building community at Conestoga. As a student, Holly was a beat reporter on Conestoga's newspaper Spoke, covering a wide range of stories in addition to holding the position of Production Manager. Holly also had a part-time job in Conestoga's Bookstore, while still managing to volunteer in the Learning Commons as a Peer Conversation Partner. Holly was also a familiar face in the Bookstore since September 2010 employed as a Sales Associate on campus.
Mandy Mistele – Year Two, Fitness & Health Promotion
Mandy is in her final year of the Fitness & Health Promotion program at Conestoga. Before coming to Conestoga, Mandy graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts with a B.A. in Theatre Studies from York University. During this time, Mandy worked as a Night Porter for one of York’s student residences, and later became a front desk customer service representative. Mandy comes to Conestoga with a keen interest in community involvement, including her participation in CIBC’s Run for the Cure and the Father’s Day Run for Prostate Cancer. On campus, Mandy also participated in a Campus Service Learning initiative with her class for Conestoga’s Health & Wellness Week.
