Orientation Leaders

Conestoga Orientation

Orientation Leaders (or OLs as we call them) play a pivotal role in providing new Conestoga students with a positive and memorable transition to the College. OLs work as a team to assist and support Conestoga College's Orientation Program as enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers, who through their efforts, help ensure the best welcome possible for new students.

As an Orientation Leader you have the chance to develop strong leadership skills as well as strengthen communication and interpersonal skills. OLs have the opportunity to participate in a variety of team activities and practice public speaking skills.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Be available for Orientation and Orientation Leader training
  • Be a part-time or full-time registered student at Conestoga College
  • Be an excellent ambassador for Conestoga College
  • Have good communication skills, be friendly and helpful
  • Have a desire to work in a team

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Enthusiastically welcoming and providing direction to students, families and friends
  • Facilitating a low-intensity welcome activity (in collaboration with other Orientation Leaders)
  • Interacting with new students during lunch and engaging them in afternoon activities
  • Answering student questions and alleviating student anxieties
  • Creating a friendly, energetic atmosphere on campus

Opportunities for Growth and Development

  • Develop strong leadership skills
  • Strengthen communication and interpersonal skills
  • Network with other students, faculty and staff on campus
  • Participate in a variety of team activities
  • Practice public speaking skills
  • Enhance student portfolio with valuable volunteer experience

To recognize and thank our Orientation Leaders, we provide them with:

  • Orientation Leader clothing, snacks and meals on training days and during Orientation
  • Thank-you letter
  • Certificate of Recognition from Conestoga College's Student Life Department
