Academic Assessment

Brief Description

If you are interested in Academic Upgrading you will start with a general “Academic Assessment” to determine the level of your academic knowledge and skills in math and communications. The results of the assessment assist you and your teacher to develop your individualized “Learning Plan” to reach your educational goal successfully.


Academic Quick Screen

Brief Description

The “Quick Screen” is a very basic assessment tool to find out if you have the minimum level of academic skills in math and communications to successfully complete individual courses or programs requiring a certain level of math and communications. If the results recommend that you improve your academic skills contact Academic Upgrading.

This quick assessment is available to clients of the Career Centres as well as Corporate Training.


APICS Testing

Brief Description

APICS, the Association for Operations Management, is the global leader and premier source of the body of knowledge in supply chain and operations management. APICS certification programs are recognized worldwide as the standard of supply chain management excellence by organizations, educators and professionals worldwide.

Conestoga College collaborates with APICS - OGV (Ontario Grand Valley Chapter) by providing APICS specialty courses,seminars and certification review courses. OGV serves members from Brantford, Waterloo Region, Guelph, Stratford, Goderich, Elmira, Walkerton, Mount Forest, Orangeville, Fergus, Paris, St.Marys, Listowel, Palmerston and Milverton areas.

Apprenticeship Exemption Test (APPR)

Brief Description

The Apprenticeship Branch of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) has authorized community colleges to administer trade exemption testing for apprentices and non-apprentices. Apprentices may challenge within their community colleges the in-school portion of apprenticeship levels of the trade-specific apprenticeship program depending on their level of expertise and time spent on the job. Non-apprentices can likewise challenge the in-school portion of the program starting at level one.

The exemption tests are based on the formal instruction requirements for an apprenticeship program. To be eligible to write an exemption test, the apprentices or non-apprentices must possess the entry requirements for the trade. Minimum age to write the test is 16. Trade-specific standards and entry requirements can be obtained from the local Apprenticeship Branch of the Ministry of Training Colleges and University (MTCU) Training Office at 519-653-5758 or online.


CELPIP (The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program)

Conestoga College collaborates with Paragon Testing Enterprises, a subsidiary of The University of British Columbia, Vancouver and is an appointed CELPIP Test Centre.

CELPIP Test Centres do not handle any customer inquires or registration applications. Please contact the CELPIP Office directly by phone at 1-800-958-5186 or by email at info@celpiptest.ca

CELPIP stands for the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program which is a set of English language proficiency tests used to assess an individual's English language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. The tests are fully computer-delivered. Candidates must be familiar with computer usage and have basic keyboard and word processing skills.

The CELPIP Test comes in three versions to suit different organizational needs (CELPIP-General, CELPIP-General LS, and CELPIP-Academic).

Assesses listening, speaking, reading and writing proficiency in typical everyday situations.

Approved by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) as proof of English language proficiency for those applying to immigrate to Canada under the Federal Skilled Workers Class, Canadian Experience Class and under various Provincial Nominee Programs.

Also used by employers requiring proof of English language proficiency of their prospective employees

GED (General Education Development) Pre-test

If you are interested in writing the GED Test ( Grade 12 Equivalency Test ) you may want to first write the GED Pre-Test to find out whether you have the academic knowledge and skills to write the official GED Test successfully. The GED Pre-Test results tell you how much academic upgrading you need to pass the GED Test.


Health Occupations Aptitude Examination (HOAE)

Brief Description

The HOAE is one of the requirements for admission to the Practical Nursing Program beginning Sept. 2012. It is a 2 1/2 - 3 hour assessment which covers academic aptitude, spelling, reading comprehension, science and vocational aptitude.


IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

IELTS is designed to assess the English language proficiency of people who intend to study or work where English is the language of communication. Listening, reading, writing and speaking skills are assessed.


International Computer Driving License (ICDL)

Life Licensing Qualification Program (LLQP)

Brief Description

Conestoga College collaborates with Durham College to host LLQP examinations and act as one of the appointed Durham College’s Service Providers.

Durham College of Applied Arts and Technology, Business and Industry Development Services was awarded the contract by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario to act as National Administrator for Canada and Local Examiner for Ontario of the Life License Qualification Program Examinations. These examinations are as follows: Full Life, Restricted A, Residual B and Accident and Sickness. The contract is the property and responsibility of the Financial Services Commission of Ontario.


Make-up Tests/Exams

The Makeup Testing service is intended to accommodate students who miss examination due to illness or other authorized reasons as well as to assist teachers with re-scheduling of evaluations. This is an optional service. Faculty may choose to handle the makeup tests/exams directly or use the test centre service as per the guidelines posted on My Conestoga under ServicesList https://myconestoga.ca/group/assessment-centre

PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition)

Brief Description

PLAR enables individuals to gain recognition and academic credits for acquired knowledge, skills or competencies through a challenge process that involves writing an exam or developing a portfolio. Most courses at Conestoga are eligible to be challenged through the PLAR process. Prior learning must be measurable at the required academic level and meet Conestoga standards of achievement for current courses. PLAR cannot be used by registered Conestoga students to clear academic deficiencies or to improve grades or to obtain admission into the program.


Post-admission Communications Assessment

TOWES (Test of Workplace Essential Skills)

Brief Description

Essential Skills are the skills needed for work, learning and life. They provide the foundation for learning all other skills and enable people to evolve with their jobs and adapt to workplace change.

TOWES is an effective assessment that accurately measures three Essential Skills needed for safe and productive employment: Reading Text, Document Use, and Numeracy.Assessment results advise test takers whether they meet the Essential Skills levels required for their chosen occupation.
