Fundamentals of Ergonomics (OHS1010)
Acquire an overview of occupational ergonomics and an introduction to ergonomic job analysis tools.
This course will begin with an overview of occupational ergonomics including its role with respect to compliance with Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act and Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. Topics will include identification of ergonomic risk factors, physical demand profiles, a structured approach to ergonomic job analysis, energy expenditure and fatigue, heat stress and strain, lower back and upper extremity injuries and ergonomic aspects of computer-based work. Participants will be introduced to a variety of ergonomic job analysis tools used to evaluate employee exposures to injury risks.
- Describe the various roles of ergonomics in occupational settings
- Identify ergonomic risk factors and describe potential safety and health concerns
- Participate in the process of recognizing, evaluating and controlling exposures to ergonomic risk factors
