Credential: 2-Year Ontario College DiplomaThis two-year diploma program prepares students with training in both electrical and mechanical maintenance including applications in automated manufacturing systems and robotics.
Graduates will have demonstrated the ability to install and maintain equipment, work with PLCs, weld, and read and interpret legislation, site plans, schematics, and manufacturer manuals.
Having developed safe working practices in the use of machine tools, hand tools, and test equipment, graduates are able to apply basic communication, documentation, information technology, and computer skills to support an electro-mechanical technician position.
As part of the program, students will have the opportunity to challenge the exemption exam for the basic level in-school apprenticeship training for the Millwright - Industrial Mechanic trade or the Industrial Electrician trade.
Graduates are well prepared for employment opportunities in a wide variety of manufacturing and industrial environments.

Postings are accepted beginning four months before the start of a term until all students have secured employment provided the minimum 12 consecutive weeks of full-time work is met.

Conestoga College collects data on hourly wages of co-operative education students and offers suggested ranges as a service to employers for the purpose of establishing fair and competitive compensation.
Our experience has been that employers increase wages as skills increase, particularly when employing students for more advanced work terms. The Co-operative Education Office can provide assistance to employers in establishing appropriate wage rates.
Work term capabilities
- Select, use and maintain machinery, tools, and equipment for the installation, manufacturing and repair of basic mechanical components
- Fabricate mechanical components and assemblies, and assemble electrical components and electronic assemblies by applying workshop skills and knowledge of basic shop practices in accordance with applicable codes and safety practices
- Contribute to the interpretation and preparation of electrical, electronic and mechanical drawings and other related technical documents and graphics
- Select and use a variety of troubleshooting techniques and test equipment to assess electro-mechanical circuits, equipment, processes, systems, and subsystems
- Perform routine technical measurements accurately using appropriate instruments and equipment
- Establish and maintain inventory, records, and documentation systems
- Contribute to the application of quality control and quality assurance programs and procedures to meet organizational standards and requirements
- Support sustainability best practices in the workplace
- Use current and emerging technologies to support the implementation of electro-mechanical and manufacturing projects
- Perform all work in compliance with relevant law, policies, codes, regulations, safety procedures, and standard organizational practices and procedures
