Description: All managers need financial management skills to make decisions and manage projects within an organization. This introductory course for non-accounting students covers aspects of both financial accounting and management accounting. Students will be able to apply concepts of finance and financial management for organizations operating in a variety of environments. Students will develop an appreciation for the techniques used to control financial risk in management situations. Students will be able to apply concepts of financial accounting to both personal and business situations, including the preparation and use of basic financial statements. Management accounting topics will allow the students to understand cost behaviour and its use in decision-making, evaluate capital investments, and prepare operating budgets.

Canadian Occupational Health and Safety

This course explores creating a healthy and safe workplace in the agri-business environment through the interpretation and application of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and related legislation, including WHMIS/GHS. Students will identify common workplace hazards, assess risks, and select appropriate control measures. This course will provide students with an introductory understanding of pests in relation to agricultural practices. Principles of prevention, cultural, physical, biological, and chemical control will be outlined. Laboratories will include pest identification and pest control methods for various crops.
