Bursary for Students with Disabilities (BSWD) / Canada Student Grant and Equipment for Persons with Permanent Disabilities (CSG-PDSE)

The Bursary for Students with Disabilities provides aid to postsecondary students with documented disabilities. The bursary is available to students with Financial Need demonstrated via the assessment of the OSAP application (both full-time and part-time applicants), and have disability related educational costs that are not covered by another agency or service.

To apply

You must register with Accessibility Services and present documentation confirming your disabilities. Your Accessible Learning counsellor will review your documentation and consult with you regarding your needs for education-related equipment or services. Applications are completed in conjunction with the Accessible Learning counsellor and submitted to Student Financial Services on your behalf.

Canada Student Grant for Persons with Permanent Disabilities

The Canada Student Grant for Persons with Permanent Disabilities provides aid to post-secondary students who have self-identified as having a permanent disability on their OSAP application. The grant provides up to $2,000 per academic year and is released as part of the student’s OSAP funding to help students pay for education-related costs.

To apply

Complete a full-time or part-time OSAP application, indicate ‘Yes’ to permanent disability, and download the Disability Verification form. Take the form to your health care provider and upload it on the OSAP website once it is completed.

Reduced tuition

Students with a documented permanent disability who require a reduced course load as a learning accommodation may be eligible to pay a reduced tuition fee of $20 plus fees per course to complete their program.

Eligibility criteria

A student is required to identify him or herself with Accessible Learning and present documentation confirming the disability and the need for a reduced course load as an accommodation. Such documentation must satisfy the college that it meets the following criteria:

  • To be eligible, you must have a permanent disability with supporting documentation.
  • This policy only covers one program even though you may have changed programs over the time you were registered. If you register in a different program a new application must be submitted.
  • If you are on a reduced course load as an accommodation and have paid the equivalent of full tuition for the program, you will only be charged $20 per course plus college ancillary, course materials, and on-line learning fees, until you complete your program.
  • This policy covers only courses that you completed successfully and for which you paid. It does not cover courses that you need to take again due to late withdrawal or unsuccessful completion.

To apply

Application forms are completed with your Accessibility Counsellor and submitted to the Registrar’s Office.

Note: Eligibility for reduced tuition rates will commence once the student has paid all tuition fees for the program that a student without a disability would be required to pay.
