“Being a patient partner with the Respiratory Therapy program has been very rewarding as I have been able to meet and speak to students and faculty about my relevant lived experience with lung transplant and provide input to simulation scenarios and the program curriculum. I look forward to future opportunities to continue to engage with the college.”

Eric Celentano, (BSc Kin), 2018 Double Lung Transplant Recipient, Toronto General Hospital

What is a patient partner?

A patient partner is someone with lived experience as a patient, caregiver or family member who helps shape health care education in meaningful ways. Your voice helps future health care professionals better understand the human side of care.

As a patient partner, you may:

  • Share your personal health care journey
  • Participate in curriculum development
  • Review educational materials
  • Join panels, workshops or simulations

Why your voice matters

Your insights help humanize health care education, promote empathy and patient-centered care, identify gaps in training and communication, and inspire future healthcare providers. Sharing your story helps students see beyond textbooks and understand the real impact of their work.
