Program description - September 2024

Settlement services are essential for supporting newcomers as they settle and adjust to their new home, Canada. Settlement Services Workers support diverse clients, either individually or in groups to navigate systems and find the supports clients require. In this Ontario College diploma program, you will gain knowledge about various programs and services, and develop skills to work with and empower newcomers as they navigate various resources, services, and systems. The program is different from others in that it places emphasis on relationship-building and understanding the newcomer journey through a lens of equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice. Through role playing, simulations, and meaningful field experiences, you will develop communication skills, programs and services that are respectful and responsive to the diverse needs and experiences of immigrants and refugees. Graduates from this program can find employment as settlement workers with various community service agencies, government agencies, hospitals, schools, and employment agencies; they can also be access navigators; housing support workers; and language and interpretation workers.
