Requirements for classroom training
- Prospective students must be registered apprentices with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD).

- Conestoga College delivers the in-school component of this apprenticeship program as required by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) In addition, the MLITSD requires employers to deliver the greater proportion of apprenticeship training on-the-job.
Offer of classroom training
In order to receive an offer of classroom training from the MLITSD, you must have an employer sponsor and be signed on as an apprentice with the government.
An apprentice in Ontario must also be a member in good standing throughout their entire apprenticeship with Skilled Trades Ontario.

Trade equivalency assessment
If you are an experienced skilled tradesperson who has not completed an Ontario apprenticeship, but you the have equivalent skills and experience, you may want or be required* to obtain your Certificate of Qualification (CofQ). Skilled Trades Ontario’s Trade Equivalency Assessment is the first step for experienced workers seeking to write the CofQ exam and become licensed.
Conestoga offers Ministry-funded pre-certification courses in a variety of trades that could help you prepare to write or re-write your certification exam. Please contact Kitchener.email@example.com to determine if you are eligible to attend one of these courses.
*Please note: some trades are compulsory. To legally work in a compulsory trade, you must hold a Certificate of Qualification or Provisional Certificate of Qualification issued by Skilled Trades Ontario, or be registered as an apprentice with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and hold a Registered Training Agreement.
The College reserves the right to alter information including requirements and fees and to cancel at any time a program, course, or program major or option; to change the location and/or term in which a program or course is offered; to change the program curriculum as necessary to meet current competencies in the job market or for budgetary reasons; or to withdraw an offer of admission both prior to and after its acceptance by an applicant or student because of insufficient applications or registrations, over-acceptance of offers of admission, budgetary constraints, or for other such reasons. In the event the College exercises such a right, the College’s sole liability will be the return of monies paid by the applicant or student to the College.
Students actively registered in cohort delivered programs who take longer than the designed program length of time to complete their studies are accountable for completing any new or additional courses that may result due to changes in the program of study. Unless otherwise stated, students registered in non-cohort delivered programs must complete the program of study within seven years of being admitted to the program.
