About the Program

Information technology workers need a broad range of practical skills to enhance concepts and principles that are often the focus of post-secondary study. This two-semester Ontario College Graduate Certificate program concentrates on hands-on application of network and systems administration practices and techniques commonly employed in modern IT enterprise infrastructure management.
Students will gain valuable skills and knowledge in the deployment and configuration of network operating systems (desktop and server), infrastructure services and network technologies. Students will also acquire foundational knowledge to work towards challenging professional certification exams from various organizations. Graduates of this program will have the skills required to move into IT administration positions or transition into more advanced graduate studies in areas such as security, networking and operations.

Financial Assistance

The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) is a needs-based program designed to help Ontario students cover the cost of post-secondary education. Funded by the federal and provincial governments, OSAP is intended to promote equality of opportunity for post-secondary studies through direct financial assistance for educational costs and living expenses. These interest-free loans are intended to supplement your financial resources and those of your family. The majority of students apply for loan assistance via the OSAP website. Graduate Opportunities

Graduates are prepared to move into the workforce in a variety of IT-related technical settings. Employment opportunities may include systems administration, service desk analyst, computer hardware technician, network operations centre support analyst, IT support technician, IT specialist, system technician and other similar roles. There is an opportunity for graduates to transition into more advanced graduate studies including IT network security, IT management, and information security.

Pathways & Credit Transfer

Conestoga pathways enable students to build on their academic achievements in order to earn a degree or additional credential. Pathways are formed through agreements between Conestoga programs or partner institutions.

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)

Conestoga recognizes prior learning of skills, knowledge or competencies that have been acquired through employment, formal and informal education, non-formal learning or other life experiences. Prior learning must be measurable at the required academic level and meet Conestoga standards of achievement for current courses. Challenge exams and portfolio development are the primary methods of assessment. Other methods of assessment may be available depending upon the nature of the course objectives. Successful completion of the assessment results in an official course credit that will be recorded on the student's Conestoga transcript. PLAR cannot be used by registered Conestoga students for the clearance of academic deficiencies, to improve grades or to obtain admission into a program.

Description: This self-directed course focuses on introducing new students to the supports, services, and opportunities available at Conestoga College. By the end of this course, students will understand the academic expectations of the Conestoga learning environment, as well as the supports available to ensure their academic success. Description: In this course, students will gain fundamental skills in the deployment and configuration of network equipment and protocols to support a LAN environment. Network design principles in the areas of IP addressing and VLANs will be covered. By the end of this course, students will be able to configure switches and routers to build a basic business network both physically and virtually.

Description: In this course, students will gain core knowledge and skills required to successfully install, configure, troubleshoot and secure a Windows Server operating system. Description: Automation of operations is extremely important in today's IT environment. IT organizations want their valuable staff performing value added work rather than repeating routing tasks. This course provides a practical introduction to programming and scripting techniques that are often used in IT automation.

Description: Participants in this course will gain a fundamental knowledge of desktop and server computer hardware components, as well as their installation, operation, maintenance and repair. By understanding the interaction between hardware and software, students will also learn how to specify desktop, mobile and server systems to meet defined business needs.

Description: This course is designed to provide students with comprehensive skills to manage Windows end user operating systems and Linux. Operating systems components and security will be covered, as well as practical troubleshooting, deployment, configuration and customization. INFO8045 Windows Server Administration II

Description: This course builds on Server Administration Foundations by covering more advanced capabilities included in Windows Server operating systems. Security practices and techniques including policy design and enforcement, patch management and advanced directory services will be employed to harden Windows. Automation of common tasks performed on Windows Server is covered. Design and hands on configuration to meet the requirements of typical enterprise networks is once again emphasized.

Description: This course is designed to enable students to deploy and configure common network infrastructure services such as DHCP, DNS, and web services. Description: IT organizations execute practices based on defined processes to ensure consistent service delivery. Projects must be planned and implemented in a well-organized manner to maximize success. This course introduces structured IT operations through ITIL, the most commonly used system in IT management. As well, students will learn how to manage an IT project from concept to conclusion using industry standard project management techniques.
