As our population continues to age and with new developments surrounding the links between untreated hearing loss and memory and cognitive decline, the demand for Hearing Instrument Specialists continues to grow. Graduates of the Hearing Instrumentation Specialist program can apply to the Association of Hearing Instrument Practitioners of Ontario (AHIP) and then complete their internship hours to become fully licensed professionals in Ontario. Once licensed, Hearing Instrument Specialists can find employment as hearing healthcare clinicians in private clinics or larger retail chains providing hearing healthcare services including hearing tests, fitting, counselling and dispensing of hearing aids and cerumen management. Graduates may also find employment in management, technical support, training, research and development, sales, or marketing with hearing aid manufacturers or, may choose to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities within this area of healthcare services.
On average, 80% of graduates from the last three years (2019 to 2021) found employment within six months of graduation.
