Program description - May 2027

Launch your career in firefighting with Conestoga's Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training program.

If you've ever dreamed of becoming a firefighter and making a real difference in your community, Conestoga's Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training program is the perfect starting point. This one-year, three-term program is designed for high school graduates who want to enter the fire service field with confidence, professionalism and the skills needed to succeed. You'll gain hands-on experience through simulation-based training and earn credentials recognized by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), preparing you for roles in fire suppression, prevention and public safety education.

With a focus on teamwork, critical thinking and lifelong wellness, this program helps you build the physical and mental resilience needed for a career in emergency services. Whether you're aiming to join a municipal fire department or pursue further training, Conestoga sets you up for success.

What you'll learn

  • Fire suppression and prevention techniques aligned with NFPA standards
  • Simulation-based training for real-world emergency scenarios
  • Public education strategies for fire safety awareness
  • Critical thinking and situational performance skills
  • Personal wellness and professional development for long-term success

Turn your certificate into a diploma

After completing this certificate, you can pursue the Fire Services diploma program through the advanced standing pathway.
