Spreadsheet Applications for Quality Assurance

Quality and Environmental Systems Auditing

Description: This course provides training to evaluate the compliant status of a Quality Management System (QMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS) to determine whether activities comply with planned arrangements and whether these activities have been implemented effectively. The students will learn how to apply the process approach to auditing in order to examine processes and procedures. ISO9001 and ISO14001 form a major part of the course material.

Description: In this course the student will investigate dimensional metrology and the use of measuring equipment to ensure quality requirements compliance in a manufacturing shop. Manufacturing Operations Management

Description: This course introduces the student to the different operational strategies that can be employed in manufacturing operations to effect the delivery of products and services. Through a combination of case studies and knowledge transfer, students will learn the concept of “value-added”, design for manufacturability, factory layout, and lean manufacturing.

Program outcomes

  1. Implement and document quality processes that ensure conformance to international quality standards.
  2. Evaluate the results of experiments for process improvement and product development to form recommendations using various process improvement tools.
  3. Evaluate quality issues, opportunities, and performance metrics using current and relevant tools such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Root Cause Analysis.
  4. Lead advanced product quality planning activities in an industrial environment using accepted quality assurance techniques including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  5. Plan the implementation of quality management processes within an industrial organization using accepted philosophies.
  6. Select the correct device or instrument to accurately measure product parameters and conduct a Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
  7. Conduct audits for Quality and Environmental systems in order to report findings and recommendations to both internal and external stakeholders.
  8. Apply test procedures and techniques to confirm that product design requirements are met.
  9. Communicate technical information effectively to customers and various internal stakeholders in management, engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and sales.
  10. Interpret information from a variety of technical and specialized sources to support quality processes.
