Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)

About the program

The Conestoga College LINC program offers free English classes for adult newcomers who wish to learn English and improve their language skills for life, for work and for further learning. Conestoga College LINC is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Admission requirements

  • You must be a landed immigrant, permanent resident or a convention refugee to Canada.
  • Individuals interested in LINC classes need to be assessed at the Language Assessment Centre of the YMCA Cross Cultural and Community Services in order to determine starting level. Contact the YMCAs of Cambridge & Kitchener-Waterloo to arrange an appointment.

Program classes

Classes are open for all levels from literacy to Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) Level 8.

Tuition & fees

Classes are free for landed immigrants, permanent residents and convention refugees to Canada.

Child care options

Free child care is available at the Cambridge, Kitchener, and Waterloo sites.
